Speech Preparation Reflection Alicia Ramos COM/110 April 25, 2016 Linda Price Speech Preparation Reflection The best way to prepare for a presentation, one must consider the best method, the type of presentation and the audience for a given topic. There are four different types of presentation methods they are; Impromptu, Extemporaneous Speaking, Using a Manuscript, and Memorization. Each of the four methods is appropriate in certain situations. Impromptu is a speech that frequently involves no preparation time and forces you to think on your feet. With no opportunity to prepare, you must rely on what you know. Extemporaneous is a speech that involves preparation and practice. The speaker might use visual representation of the particular data or statistics. A demonstration speech explains how to do something. Visualization is the key, on how-to speeches using visual examples that show the audience how to move from step to step through a particular activity. Audience analysis is a task that is often performed by technical writers in a projects early stages. It consists of assessing the audience to make sure the information provided to them is at the appropriate level. Understanding our audience is one of the most important elements of effective communication. Considering your audience when creating a presentation can help you tailor your content to give them specifically what they want, need, and expect. By doing this you are able to deliver a presentation that engages, informs and persuades. One of the most important parts of your speech is to involve your audience. We should view our audience as collaborators. Keeping your audience in mind while you write can help you make good decisions about what material to include, how to organize your ideas, and how best to support your argument. Many people have come to America for adventure, opportunity, freedom, and the chance to experience the particular qualities of the American landscape. The American Dream is the idea that every United States citizen, including immigrants and residents, should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. America somewhat provides access to the American dream, it is more so the citizen who provides access to the dream for themselves. Even though they encountered many trials and tribulations, with persistence, people such as Langston Hughes in â€Å"I Too Sing America and Anzia Yezierska in â€Å"America and I† they were able to achieve their individual American Dream. In the poem â€Å"I Too†¦show more content†¦Anzia Yezierska also had to work harder than most to achieve her American Dream. As an immigrant coming to America she was excited to encounter the new experiences that come along with moving to America. She hopes to find a job where she can use her intelligence but she stumbles along some hard spots while on her journey. When she first comes to America she ends up working for a Russian family which just so happens to be where she comes from. She describes the family as â€Å"Americans† it is in quotation marks because she is calling them fake Americans. Anzia believes that the family has tried to reject their Heritage and conform to this new society, without remembering where they have come from. While working for this family she is treated very poorly and does not receive any wages and she chooses to never work for an American family again. Anzia came to America in hopes to find a job where she will be able to use her in telligence â€Å"I’d be a creator, as giver, a human being, my work would be the living job of expression (Yezierska 6)†. Anzia is unable to get the type of job she wants because she does not speak English. â€Å"Here I was with so much richness, but my mind was not wanted without the language (Yezierska 9)†. In the Peloponnesian war with Sparta he served as an infantryman with conspicuous bravery at the battles of potidaea in 432-430 bc, Delium in 424 bc, and amphipolis in 422 bc. Socrates believed superiority of argument over writing and therefore spent the greater part of his mature life in the marketplace and public resorts of Athens in dialogue and argument with anyone who would listen or who submit to interrogation. He wrote no books and establish no regular school of philosophy. He belief in a purely objective understanding at such concepts as justice, love, and virtue, and the self-knowledge that he inculcated, were the basis of his teachings. He believed that all vice is the result of ignorance, and that no person is willingly bad; correspondingly, virtue is knowledge, and those who know the right will act rightly. Plato represents Socrates as hidings behind an ironical profession of ignorance, known as Socratic irony, and possessing a mental acuity and resourcefulness that enabled him to penetrate arguments with great facility. Socrates was nonetheless regarded with suspicion by many of his contemporaries, who dislike his attitude toward the Athenian state and the established religion.
